The Second Eve – Part 2

As I said in my first post, this series has largely been inspired by Frank Viola’s “From Eternity to Here”. We saw in my last post that if Christ is the second Adam, then His bride, the church, is the second Eve. In this post, I want to look at what this second Eve looks like and what is her purpose. Here are some of her characteristics:

  • She is holy, pure and perfect just like the first Eve pre-fall. She has been cleansed by the blood of Christ so that He could present to Himself a pure bride, without spot or wrinkle. (Eph. 5)
  • She was made for her husband, Christ. She was made by Him, through Him, and for Him. Her primary purpose is to satisfy Christ’s desire for a counterpart.
  • She matches Christ in expression and nature because she is joined to Him. (1 Cor. 6.17, Eph.5)
  • She is a New Creation, just like Eve was created after the initial creation of Adam. She is not defined by the old fallen creation.
  • She is completely devoted and absorbed by her husbrand and He is smitten with love for her.
  • She has the DNA of her husband just like Eve had the DNA of Adam. She has his nature, character, and desires. She is a partaker of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:4)
  • She was taken from Christ just like Eve was taken from Adam and thus the second Eve forms Christs body. She is so joined to Him that when the world sees her, they see Christ Himself.
  • She was hidden in Christ before time began. Just like Eve was hidden in Adam before she was created. (Eph, 1:4)
  • Paul said that the woman is the glory of the man (1 Cor. 11:7). The second Eve is the glory of Christ on the earth as she bears His image for the world to see.
  • She is so much more…

As you can see, this is a rather special woman to the Lord. He has eyes for no other. She is the eternal passion of His heart. She is you and me joined together in Christ.
