Joined to Him – Introduction

Firstly, welcome to my blog! If you don’t know who I am, well, I am just a simple brother who loves the Lord because He first loved me. I wouldn’t even be writing this blog were it not for Christs extravagant love and grace. My hope and desire is that through reading this blog you will experience and enjoy the riches which are hidden in Christ.

The name of this blog is, “Joined to Him”. These words have been at the center of my journey with the Lord over the past few years. I can barely begin to describe how these words and the meaning behind them have thrown me into a revelation of Christ. They have imparted unspeakable joy and freedom in my walk with the Lord. So where do these words come from and what do they mean? The verse below struck a cord in me years ago that is still vibrating to this day.

“But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” 1 Corinthians 6:17

When I read this verse properly for the first time I was utterly floored. I was totally shocked that this verse was actually in my bible. Consequently, I spent many months chewing on this verse and asked the Lord many questions. This verse would invariably come up many times in conversations I had with other believers, since I was trying to gain some form of knowledge or understanding.

In hindsight I realize that the Lord had no intention of giving me a one-liner explanation that I could file away in a well organized theological cabinet. His intention and desire was not just to give me knowledge but for me to come into an experience of His indwelling Life. To put it another way, imagine you were at a dinner party, and the host brings out a dish of food you had never seen before. You get the host to explain what ingredients are used in the dish, how it tastes and how it was prepared. You smell the dish and poke it around with a fork. In your mind you know as much as you can about the dish, but there is one crucial thing you lack. You have not tasted and experienced the dish for yourself. Only until you eat the dish can you know and experience the ‘fullness’ of the dish. Only then can you fulfill the purpose the dish was created for and the desire of the host, which was for you to eat and enjoy the food.

This blog post serves as an introduction to a series of blog posts I will write over the coming months on the topic of our union with Christ. As my above illustration suggests, I will present you with various dishes which you may or may not have tasted. Ultimately it will be up to you to eat, enjoy and experience the living Christ.
